Scone, Cowra tips: Saved from the Highway trip Best Bet can deliver at Scone

Seven race card and a soft track at Scone on Monday and the fields certainly get bigger as the day goes on while at Cowra it’s also a seven race program to be conducted on a soft track.

SCONE

BEST BET

Race 5 No. 4: Artie’s Aura

Kody Nestor-trained filly who bolted in on debut at Dubbo, beaten a neck next time and spelled. Trialled up a storm at Warren a few weeks back.

NEXT BEST

Race 6 No. 5: Louder

Third-up today and down in class from those two Kembla runs which were acceptable given the circumstances of each. Needs to step up and win again.

VALUE

Race 1 No. 1: Finney

Only won once in 18 starts, a lot of stayers have records like that. Bottom line is, he won’t get a better chance to add one more than today.

QUADDIE

Race 4: 2,5,8

Race 5: 4,10

Race 6: 1,2,5

Race 7: 2,3,13

JOCKEY TO FOLLOW

Reece Jones is on 99 ½ wins and what better place to raise the bat on the century than at home at Scone today.

COWRA

BEST BET

Race 3 No. 8; Devil’s Triangle

Matthew Dale trained More Than Ready filly who won at Wagga on debut then was a close-up third at Dubbo after that. Well drawn and has Blaike McDougall on.

NEXT BEST

Race 5 No. 11 Pouring Rain

Dale and McDougall again; this filly has a big finish but the key is the 1400m – just ideal now.

RACE 4

Gold Lunar is trained at Scone by Rodney Northam and although the filly is yet to win in her 11 starts, she has placed 5 times and has gone very close to winning on a few occasions. Can’t knock her on the score of talent or desire, it’s been ‘pattern’ more than anything that has conspired against. Eureka turned in an encouraging debut run here over 900m on a Heavy 8 on July 9. Drawn well again and natural improvement expected. The Regular Show just needs luck early and he will be ‘there’ late.

Bet: Gold Lunar win, box First 4 Nos. 2,5,8,14,16

RACE 5

Artie’s Aura was going to start in the market in a TAB Highway a couple of weeks back but she never made the trip from Dubbo to the city. The Kody Nestor trained filly won on Valentine’s Day there at home by panels and was spelled after a good performance at Mudgee. Trialled up a treat at Warren. The Storm In Me is a two-year-old filly, about to be three, whose win at Muswellbrook was full of merit. Empowerment hasn’t done much wrong this prep.

Bet: Artie’s Aura win, Daily Double 1st leg (5), 2nd leg (3)

RACE 6

Louder is a Brad Widdup trained mare who gets her big chance to get an infrequent win on the board today. She is absolutely no doubt a provincial grade mare, maybe even midweek standard, but her racing pattern has often played against her. Scone should suit! Plucky And Lucky has visited Scone three times for a win and a third. Pay to forgive the Heavy 10 run at Goulburn. Nowyounomi is in red-hot form and ran a great race in the TAB Highway at Randwick 16-days ago.

Bet: Louder win,, box trifecta 1,2,5,8

RACE 7

Island Grange, a rising eight-year-old mare, is having her first run for the King of Cessnock, aka, Jeremy Sylvester today. She has raced 33 times for 4 wins/8 placings and at times has been absolutely barnstorming in her races. Looked great winning her trial and could just charge here late. Enamour is the opposite to Island Grange in that she is very, very fast. Placed 4 from 7 at this trip, drawn well, has the 3kgs off, right race – just a matter of pressure and running the 1000m right out now. Dragoneight and Baiyka are in the mix.

Bet: Island Grange win, Dragoneight place, duet 3,13

RACE 4

Willybeafactor has been fantastic this campaign winning three on end at one stage followed by rock solid efforts at the next three after that. Got a wide draw here but he gets back and really launches late, all he needs is ‘tempo’ and a well timed ride. Ghost Doctor has a benchmark rating of 70 which is far superior to anything else in the race. Coming back to country grade today after running well at Hillside and Flemington. Likes it here too. Obelos has paid the penalty for wide draws at his last two. Drawn one here. Major player.

Bet: Willybeafactor win, Obelos place

RACE 5

Pouring Rain is a Matthew Dale trained filly whose dam is a half-sister to Thankgodyou’rehere and also to the mother of Happy Clapper who both raced in the same colours as this particular three-year-old. Pouring Rain won debut, spelled, and has been very good without winning in her three tuns this prep. Going to eat up 1400m. Zouly is a talented Tricolours mare who has some real depth to her form. Encouraging first-up run. Wants 1400m now too it seems. Wilga Hill raced handy and was quite dominant winning at Echuca on the Heavy 10 on debut.

Bet: Pouring Rain win, box trifecta 1,2,5,11

RACE 6

Okra went within a whisker of winning at Albury on July 13. That would have made it back to back wins for the son of Husson given that he was so dominant the start prior at Wagga. Nick Heywood seems to get along with the horse very well indeed. Just Business has got a wide draw and a big weight but he has 62kg when he placed second-up over 1400m. Mile comes at the perfect time for him today. Clem Fandango was scratched from Saturday’s Highway. Form reads well but the barrier’s a worry.

Bet: Okra each-way

RACE 7

Fleur De Rose was really impressive when she won on debut at Wagga back on February 20. She raced twice after that and was spelled. Prolific winning Jerilderie trainer Phil Sweeney has her ready to open her new campaign today in what looks on paper to be the ideal race for the daughter of Bull Point. Seventh Seal is well known as the brother to First Seal. This Mitchell Beer trained gelding is a consistent horse who has a bit going for him here. Sestina went within a half length of the hat-trick last time out. Go well again.

Bet: Fleur De Rose win, quinella 4,10
