US Open security protect ex-tennis star from aggressive fan as ‘911 called’

US Open security was forced to step in when a fan aggressively confronted former world No 12 Viktor Troicki during a qualifying match. The retired pro now coaches Hamad Medjedovic, who was facing Borna Gojo when things got heated. Another spectator said they were “calling 911” as the fan continued to swear at Troicki with security trying to get between them.

Troicki was involved in a scuffle at the US Open after his charge Medjedovic levelled up at one set all against Gojo in the first round of qualifying. A spectator on Court 5 was filmed verbally attacking the three-time title winner in the stands as security intervened, with the fan calling the 37-year-old a “f**king crybaby”.

The video, posted by Andrew Jerell Jones under @sluggahjells on Twitter, showed a guard stepping in as the spectator continued: “He can’t take someone cheering against his f**king player. It’s the US Open. There’s 12 million f**king people in this city. We all are f**king loud. F**king clown.”

Someone the spectator appeared to be with tried to pull him away but he told his friend to “f**k off” before stepping towards Troicki with the security guard still in between them as what looked to be someone’s phone fell on the floor following his advances.

“Who’s provoking? We’re cheering, you d**k. It’s New York, not f**king Serbia,” the crowd member added as two more members of staff and security joined the scene. Other people in the stands started jeering and putting their thumbs down at the incident as one said: “Come on, that’s a former player, man. You’re talking to Viktor Troicki.”

But the spectator proved relentless, telling the third security guard: “This a**hole told me to shut up.” A woman in the crowd could then suddenly be heard shouting: “I’m calling 911. I’m calling 911, man.”
