Unai Emery has confirmed he will not be leaving Villarreal to join Newcastle despite reports linking him with the vacant post at St James' Park.
The Magpies reportedly set their sights on appointing Emery as a replacement for sacked boss Steve Bruce, who was dismissed by the club's new Saudi Arabian owners last month.
Yet in a major blow for Toon chiefs, the former Arsenal manager has revealed he is "100% committed" to his job at Villarreal while expressing his gratitude at interest from a "great club".
Emery said in a statement on Wednesday: "No matter how much noise there might be in another country, within the club there was transparency and loyalty with the Roig family (Villarreal owners) and with my squad, which for me is of maximum importance.
"Villarreal CF is my home and I am 100% committed.
"Honestly, I am grateful for the interest of a great club, but even more grateful to be here and that is why I communicated to Fernando Roig my decision to want to continue being part of this project because of the commitment and respect that I perceive from the club and from my players, which is mutual and reciprocal.
Unai Emery's eye-watering contract demands and the release clause Newcastle have to pay
"I want to thank the fans for the support they have always shown me.
"On Sunday we have a very important game [against Getafe] and I hope that together we can achieve victory. See you at the Estadio de la Ceramica."
Newcastle will now have to turn their attention elsewhere after being dealt a definitive setback in their pursuit of Emery.
A deal between the two parties was expected to be announced before their clash with Brighton at the weekend, with reports suggesting Emery would receive a £7million salary on Tyneside.
Nevertheless, the mammoth offer was not enough to convince him to leave Villarreal.
