Manchester United continue to dominate the headlines heading into the new week after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked at the weekend. Mauricio Pochettino appears to be the frontrunner for the job and it’s been reported that he is ready to quit Paris Saint-Germain immediately to force through a switch.
For now, Michael Carrick will take charge on an interim basis and he’ll be in the dugout against Villarreal on Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Newcastle are also being linked with big-money moves in January and Dusan Vlahovic is the latest to be linked with a move to St James’ Park.
Chelsea could have some trouble on their hands though as Mason Mount is seemingly growing frustrated at contract talks with the club’s hierarchy.
He wants a deal on par with the best-paid players at Chelsea. Antonio Rudiger’s future also remains up in the air in a growing issue for Thomas Tuchel.

Salah contract talks
Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards will be “desperate” to tie Mohamed Salah down to a new contract before he departs the club next summer.
That’s according to Premier League icon Kevin Phillips, who believes some Liverpool fans will think less of Edwards if he’s unable to convince Salah to sign a new contract.
“There’s no doubt about it, he will want to sort that [Salah’s] contract out before he leaves,” the ex-Sunderland striker told Football Insider.
“He will be desperate to get it sorted and I’m sure he will.
“I think some people would say his time at Liverpool would be tarnished if Salah doesn’t sign a new deal and leaves at the end of the season. I certainly don’t see it like that.”
Abramovich goes against Tuchel
Thomas Tuchel may not get his wish of a “happy ending” to Antonio Rudiger’s contract situation.
The Chelsea boss was in high spirits on Saturday after his side thrashed Leicester 3-0, with Rudiger among the goals.
Tuchel was asked about his view on Rudiger’s contract situation. He said: “Let’s be a bit patient and hopefully we have a happy end.”
But Goal suggest that won’t be the case with Roman Abramovich reluctant to give into Rudiger’s contract demands.
Pochettino escape route
Mauricio Pochettino may well have the opportunity to join Manchester United sooner than first thought.
According to FootMercato, PSG’s owners ‘dream’ of having Zinedine Zidane in charge of the team.
That could well open the door for Pochettino to open talks with United with the Argentine coach their No 1 choice.
Umtiti up for grabs
Barcelona boss Xavi has seemingly agreed with club owners that Samuel Umtiti has now future at the club.
According to Sport, Umtiti will be released from his contract at Barcelona and that could open the door for Tottenham to swoop in.

Leeds want Barkley
The January transfer window looks to be more focused on loan deals and Leeds have set their sights on Ross Barkley.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim Leeds are keeping tabs on Barkley at Chelsea.
The midfielder has fallen down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel and is said to be considering his options.
Barkley may well be the second January signing for Leeds with a deal for Mateo Joseph Fernandez reportedly in the final stages of being completed.
Newcastle target four deals
Newcastle have reportedly set their sights on four primary targets for the January transfer window.
According to The Northern Echo, Eddie Howe has requested the club’s owners to target tried-and-tested Premier League players.
James Tarkowski is mentioned as the priority, along with Jesse Lingard. There is also interest in Divock Origi along with Oleksandr Zinchenko.
Renato Sanches speaks out
Arsenal transfer target Renato Sanches has dropped his biggest hint yet that he’ll be looking for leave Lille in January.
“Maybe Milan and Arsenal are interested but I don’t know,” Sanches has told L’Equipe.
“I spoke with my agent, I know which clubs are calling and which are not, but I can’t tell now. But I know I’m ready. If an offer comes in, I’ll find out what’s best for me.”
Silly season has started early it seems as Mason Mount is being tipped for a sensational switch to Liverpool.
The Daily Star claim Mount is unhappy at his current treatment by Chelsea given his current wages compared to some others at the club.
And Liverpool are mentioned as a a possible destination for the England international.
“He is torn because he loves the club and the fans, but thinks it’s time for him to leave to step up his career. And where better to do that than Liverpool?” One source told the Star.
Gallagher not in the shop window
Steve Sidwell has disclosed a private conversation he had with Rio Ferdinand not too long ago about Conor Gallagher.
The midfielder is currently impressing on loan at Crystal Palace and it’s clear Gallagher’s plan is to return to Stamford Bridge.
“He said to Rio, ‘make sure that when you speak about me, make sure you state that I want to go back to Chelsea’,” Sidwell said.
“‘I’m not here in the shop window to just get a move, I’m doing this to show everyone what I can do and go back to Chelsea’.”
Steve Bruce redemption

The England international currently earns £75,000-a-week and wants to be rewarded closer to the highest earners at the club.
And it’s claimed that he is prepared to leave if Chelsea fail to match his ambitions.
Pochettino to quit NOW
No other place to start than at Manchester United and their managerial search.
Mauricio Pochettino is the top target and the Daily Mail report the Argentine head coach is ready to quit Paris Saint-Germain immediately to force through a switch.
It is said that Pochettino has grown frustrated at managing big egos such as Lionel Messi and Neymar.
