Tottenham transfer plan being blocked by Ange Postecoglou with ‘little interest’

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is reportedly the main reason Spurs aren’t pushing ahead with a move to sign Clement Lenglet on a permanent basis this summer. Lenglet moved to Tottenham on loan 12 months ago and was a regular starter throughout last season.

But the Frenchman has since returned to Barcelona with the Spanish side trying to offload him once again. Tottenham have been touted as Lenglet’s most likely destination, but talks have seemingly stalled on a move.

Postecoglou still wants to bring in at least one more defender before the transfer window closes and Lenglet would fill that role. But it appears as though Postecoglou has no real desire to bring Lenglet back to north London.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Postecoglou has shown ‘little interest’ in signing Lenglet. Tottenham are said to have ‘cooled’ their interest since Antonio Conte’s departure and Postecoglou’s stance seemingly makes a deal unlikely.

While Lenglet was a regular in Tottenham’s back line last season, they had one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League. Only Southampton, Leeds, Leicester, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth conceded more goals than Tottenham – three of which were relegated.

Postecoglou has also changed Tottenham’s defensive unit this season, opting for a more traditional back four instead of three centre-backs. Cristian Romero and summer signing Mick van de Ven are seen as the starting pair in the middle.

Davinson Sanchez also appears to have won Postecoglou over this summer having struggled to impress under Conte. The Colombia international looked set to leave this summer, but has now nailed down the club’s third-choice centre-back role.

Questions are now being raised on Eric Dier’s future at the club with the defender being left out of the club’s opening two league games. The 29-year-old had been a favourite under both Jose Mourinho and Conte, but doesn’t appear to be in Postecoglou’s plans.

Dier has just one year left on his current contract with Fulham showing interest in the centre-back. Tottenham have also been linked with Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo as a possible option in defence.
