Tottenham beat Bournemouth 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium to maintain their promising start to the season. James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski scored a goal apiece to send Ange Postecoglou’s side top of the Premier League table for a couple of hours at least.
Maddison was an injury scare for the match after being pictured on crutches following the 2-0 win over Manchester United. However, Postecoglou confirmed he was fit this week and named him in his starting XI on the south coast.
He finished from close range to put Tottenham ahead in the 17th minute. Pape Sarr provided the assist for the goal as Spurs’ midfield continues to impress.
Bournemouth pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half but were unable to make their pressure count before Spurs doubled their lead through Kulusevski after good work from Destiny Udogie. Express Sport looks at three things we learned from the match.

Three new undroppables
Postecoglou has found three players who will surely now be deemed undroppable for the forthcoming matches. Yves Bissouma and Sarr have formed an exciting midfield partnership, while Udogie is shining at left-back.
Bissouma had a difficult first season at Tottenham after his move from Brighton. He struggled under Antonio Conte before suffering an ankle injury which ruled him out for three months.
Now he looks at home and worth all of the £25million Spurs paid for him. Sarr, meanwhile, scored his first Premier League goal in last weekend’s win over Manchester United.
The Senegal international has never been a regular at Spurs but is now being given his chance. He laid on a fine assist for Maddison’s opener, proving again he is capable in the final third.
He and Bissouma are keeping Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp out of the side. Hojbjerg and Skipp will spend a lot of time on the bench if the two starters keep up this form, although both did come on in the second half to help sure up defensively.

Udogie is quickly making the left-back spot his own. The 20-year-old was signed by Conte last summer but returned to Udinese on loan.
Neutral fans can be excused for not knowing too much about him but that is sure to change as he grows with each performance. Spurs will hope the injury that forced him off late on won’t keep him out for long.
Maddison signing of the summer
Maddison has made an immediate impression on this Tottenham side. The England star must surely be considered one of the signings of the summer at just £40m.
He registered 19 goal contributions for Leicester last season and will surely surpass that if he stays fit at Spurs. He took his first Tottenham goal with aplomb and was a creative force throughout.
Maddison turns 27 in November so should be hitting his prime. Each performance in a Spurs shirt makes it even more surprising that a Champions League club didn’t attempt to sign him.
Front three needs work
Tottenham’s midfield is standing out as a shining light at the moment but their attack still needs work. Richarlison is in desperate need of a goal to start showing he can go some way to replacing Harry Kane.
Neither he nor captain Heung-min Son have registered a goal contribution so far this season. Postecoglou will be hoping that clicks soon so that Spurs can see off teams earlier in matches.
