Erik ten Hag says Manchester United are unlikely to sign a replacement for Christian Eriksen before the transfer deadline after the Denmark star was ruled out for up to three months.
Eriksen damaged the ligaments in his left ankle in United’s FA Cup win over Reading at the weekend when he was fouled by veteran striker Andy Carroll.
The former Tottenham midfielder left Old Trafford on crutches, and United confirmed on Tuesday that the 30-year-old will be sidelined until late April or early May.
Erik ten Hag says Manchester United are unlikely to sign a replacement for Christian Eriksen
Manager Erik ten Hag insists he has enough midfield options to replace, who has been in excellent form since joining United on a free transfer in the summer, and admitted it is unlikely that he can make a new signing before the 11pm deadline.
‘Of course, he’s disappointed,’ said Ten Hag. ‘We are disappointed, but it happens in top football. It shouldn’t have happened but it did and you have to deal with it.

Ten Hag said Manchester United have ‘good players’ in the midfield department that can fill in
‘On deadline day it’s difficult. You can’t make policy on such bad injuries, but we have players in the midfield department, good players. We have players who can fill the gap.
‘I think you can never fill that (gap) because every player has his own characteristics and identity. Another player will always fill in in a different way, but it doesn’t mean you have to be less successful.
‘It’s quite clear Christian Eriksen brings top quality to our squad and he has some specifics that are hard to replace, such as his impacts in the final third with his final ball.’
Fred is an obvious candidate considering he already plays alongside star midfielder, Casemiro
Fred is an obvious candidate considering he already plays alongside United’s midfield kingpin Casemiro for Brazil.
‘There’s not a worse squad in there world,’ added Ten Hag. ‘They have so many choices they can make, but they play together and that tells something about the quality Fred has and what he can contribute to the team.
‘When he came on in the last game he scores a goal. He has a lot of qualities and they’re a good combination, Casemiro and Fred.’
