Shakhtar rub salt in Arsenal wounds over Mudryk as fans call them ‘shameless’

Shakhtar Donetsk have rubbed salt in Arsenal's wounds over the transfer of Mykhaylo Mudryk as Gunners fans call them "shameless".

The Gunners had reportedly been closing in on the signing of the promising Ukrainian winger, with personal terms agreed and Mudryk teasing that the move was close to completion. However, Chelsea swooped in to hijack the deal and completed an £88million deal to sign the 22-year-old, announcing his arrival during Sunday's win over Crystal Palace.

Ahead of the match, Shakhtar hinted that an announcement was imminent by tweeting the "soon" emoji and "#FreeMudryk" to the frustration of Arsenal supporters.

One angry fan replied: “Never seen a more shameless club. Hope they liquidate.” Another added: “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

A third commented: “Nah this is too much, Chelsea tagged him on Insta and now this from Shakhtar, elite level of trolling.” Another more also wrote: “The way this admin has hyped this transfer is beyond embarrassing.”

After beating Arsenal to Mudryk's signature, Chelsea presented their new signing to the crowd at Stamford Bridge during their win over Palace.

The Ukraine international has signed an eight-and-a-half year deal with the Blues, keeping him with the club until the summer of 2031.

He will wear the number 15 shirt, previously worn by Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne, and could make his debut as early as Saturday, when Chelsea visit Liverpool in the league.

After completing his move, he explained: "I’m so happy to sign for Chelsea. This is a huge club, in a fantastic league and it is a very attractive project for me at this stage of my career.

"I’m excited to meet my new team-mates and I’m looking forward to working and learning under Graham Potter and his staff."

He arrives in England after producing 18 goal contributions in as many matches for Shakhtar across all competitions this season after enjoying a breakthrough year in 2022.
