Roma fans come out to Paulo Dybala’s unveiling as if it’s a title-winning parade

Thousands of Roma supporters were on hand to give Paulo Dybala a spine-tingling welcome to the club outside one of the most iconic buildings in the Eternal City – bringing tears to his eyes.

Dybala was brought out to the crowd of an estimated 8000 supporters outside the Palace of Italian Civilisation in the capital on Tuesday evening (July 26) as they serenaded the Argentine with the club anthem.

The 28-year-old, who was given a microphone to address his new fans, sat on the steps of the palace and soaked in the passion of the Roma faithful as he gets down to work under Jose Mourinho after a sixth placed finish last season.

Dybala, who spent seven seasons with Juventus, told the crowd: "Today, having experienced all this, I'm realising that I just cannot wait to run out at the Olimpico in front of the Curva Sud (curved stands)."

The creative midfielder, who rejected a contracted extension at his former club before leaving on a free transfer, has won five Serie A titles as a player since 2015/16 while Roma haven't won the league since 2000/01.

Dybala managed a total of 144 goal and 64 assists for Juventus since joining from Palermo back in 2015, where he had once been the strike partner of Kyle Lafferty – and will now link up with England forward Tammy Abraham.

"The days that have led up to me signing this contract have been filled with so many emotions,” Dybala said on his official arrival.

"The speed and determination with which Roma demonstrated just how much they wanted me made all the difference.

"I am joining a team that is on the up, a club that continues to put in place strong foundations for the future, and a coach, Jose Mourinho, that it will be a privilege to work with.

"As an opponent I have always admired the atmosphere created by the Roma fans – I now cannot wait for the chance to salute them while wearing this shirt."

General manager Tiago Pinto added: "Paulo’s decision to join our project is a testament to the club’s credibility and a sign of the hard work that, all together, we are putting in to take Roma forward.

"Paulo is a world-renowned player who has won major trophies and gained global acclaim; he will bring that class with him to Roma and I am sure that, with him in the squad, we will be even stronger and more competitive."
