Real Madrid have made a last-minute move to sign Erling Haaland, according to reports. The Norway international is primed to leave Borussia Dortmund for a new challenge this summer. And Barcelona and Manchester City are also in the mix to land the forward as they plan for a brighter future.

According to Sport, Real have acted late in the day to try and bring Haaland to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the campaign.

Despite Karim Benzema’s fine form, and Kylian Mbappe being their No 1 target, it appears Los Blancos are eager to win the race for the Norway international.

Real president Florentino Perez is eager to go on a spree this summer, despite the La Liga giants flying high under Carlo Ancelotti.

And they’re keen to beat the likes of Manchester City and Barcelona to the Borussia Dortmund star, who has scored 16 goals from 19 Bundesliga games this term.

It’s said that Haaland, for his part, is yet to decide his future.

City are willing to spend big on the Dortmund striker and meet his wage demands in order to ensure he moves to the Etihad Stadium.

But Barcelona can’t be ruled out, either, despite club president Joan Laporta continuously playing down their chances.

Haaland is said to want to leave Dortmund on good terms, having enjoyed playing for the German giants since arriving from Red Bull Salzburg back in January 2020.

And where he ends up remains to be seen.

Barcelona are reportedly ‘waiting’ on Haaland to get in touch and clarify his future one way or another.

But it’s Madrid and City who are the two frontrunners at the current moment in time.

Haaland, should he move to Real, would likely play alongside Benzema.

And Los Blancos legend Guti recently talked up the prospect of the pair being a deadly double act on the pitch.

“Mbappe inspires enthusiasm among all of us, not just at Real Madrid,” he said.

“It’s very important for LaLiga that he comes.

“And if Haaland can come, all the better. If they don’t sign Haaland now, they will never sign him.

“Because then he’ll go to another big club and it will be difficult to sign him.”

He then added: “Benzema is great but look at the age he is.

“Hopefully he can hold out longer, but he’s his age and if you can spare him in games and use Haaland instead, all the better.”

City boss Pep Guardiola was recently asked about Haaland – but he made it clear he didn’t want to discuss the matter.

“Since I am here, every month or two months people say we are going to sign 50 players,” Guardiola said.

“Right now, listen, It’s impossible that I am going to talk about some guy who is not here.

“He’s a Dortmund player and we’ve an incredible run ahead of us.

“At the end of the season it is the transfer window and many things are going to happen.

“Maybe I speak about this club needing a striker for the next five, six, seven years, maybe once in the last 12 months.

“I’m not going to be the guy saying we are a success or not a success because we didn’t have a striker.

“We have to play good and arrive with seven or eight players in the box.

“This is the best way to score goals.”
