Pulisic woes continue as Chelsea man puts in ‘miss of the season contender’

Chelsea fans were absolutely flabbergasted by Christian Pulisic after the American produced one of the misses of the season against Leicester City on Thursday night.

In an almost a carbon-copy of his performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup final on Saturday, the 23-year-old looked lively but couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo to continue his miserable week in front of goal on what was his 50th start for the club.

After creating a pocket of space in the box, Romelu Lukaku received the ball from Reece James before cutting it across goal for Pulisic who, after skipping away from his marker, seemed to have a simple tap-in from six-yards.

But the winger took his eye off the ball at the vital moment and failed to get a clean connection, slicing the shot well wide of the post as a very relieved Kasper Schmeichel counted his lucky stars.

The disbelief on the faces of both Pulisic and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel painted one heck of an emotive picture, and their reactions were more than echoed on social media.

"Miss of the season contender by Pulisic," one supporter tweeted.

"That Pulisic miss doesn't surprise me. He's missed at least two of those in two different finals," another wrote, while a third said: "Let's talk about Pulisic … has he been wearing Werner's boots?"

The visitors took the lead on the night with just six minutes on the clock after James Maddison thumped home from just inside the box, but it was Leicester's only real foray into Chelsea' box all evening as the home side took control of possession thereafter.

Marcos Alonso equalised just after the half-hour with a superbly-taken volley following a gorgeous chipped through-ball from James, who proved to Chelsea just how much they missed him during his lengthy spell on the sidelines this season – not that they needed any reminding.

The Blues pushed for a late winner, though Pulisic's glaring chance was undeniably the moment to grab one as the Foxes stood firm to hold on to a point.

The draw means that Chelsea have all but secured third place in the Premier League with one game remaining, while Leicester have all but guaranteed a top-half finish.
