Paul Pogba to miss all of January as Man Utd boss Rangnick gives injury update

Ralf Rangnick has revealed it could be another six weeks before midfield magician Paul Pogba is back in the Manchester United team.

Pogba, 28, has been sidelined since tearing a thigh muscle at the start of November while training with the France squad ahead of a World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.

The World Cup winner was expected to be sidelined for up to 10 weeks before returning to action this month.

But despite Pogba having resumed light training on his own at United, Rangnick admits the midfield enigma will not be match fit and available again until next month instead.

The news is a blow to interim boss Rangnick as he looks to salvage something from what is turning out to be another disappointing season at Old Trafford.

Rangnick, whose side host Aston Villa in the FA Cup third round on Monday night, said: "A week ago I was told it would take another four or five weeks. I've seen him, but currently I don't know how long it will take.

"He's not training with the team yet. As far as I know from the medical department, it will last another three or four weeks, and once he is then fit for training it does not necessarily mean he is also match fit.

"It will probably take a couple of weeks before he is really able to compete for the first team."

The French dynamo has only made nine league appearances this season, with United clearly missing a creative edge in attack since his absence.

Pogba's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain with various clubs reportedly interested in signing him on a free transfer as he enters the last few months of his contract.

United were reported by The Sun on Friday to have offered the former Juventus talisman a whopping £400k-a-week contract to persuade him to stay beyond the summer.

It remains to be seen whether he will accept their tempting offer or opt for a new challenge after six years at the club.
