Onana was 'out of order' for 'shouting' at Maguire, claims Foster

Manchester United’s £43m new keeper Andre Onana was ‘bang out of order’ for ‘shouting and raving’ at Harry Maguire in pre-season game, claims Ben Foster

  • Andre Onana berated Harry Maguire for his defending vs Borussia Dortmund
  • Manchester United lost the game 3-2 in their final US tour match in Las Vegas
  • Ex-United keeper, Ben Foster, suggested that Onana went too far with Maguire

Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster has claimed that Andre Onana was ‘bang out of order’ for venting his frustrations with Harry Maguire in pre-season.

Onana made his frustrations known during United’s 3-2 loss to Borussia Dortmund last month, as the Cameroonian gave his defender an earful for giving away possession and allowing Dortmund’s attackers in on goal.

Onana managed to get a hand to Sebastien Haller’s effort before Karim Adeyemi fired the follow-up wide.

Once the ball went out of play, the former Inter Milan keeper sprinted over to Maguire and berated him for the mistake.

A number of prominent names from within the sport have since reacted to the incident – such as talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor – and now a former United keeper has chimed in.

Former United keeper Ben Foster (R) expressed his disappointment with Onana’s actions

United’s new £47million goalkeeper was seen rushing over to Maguire and shouted at him for giving the ball away

Foster, who spent five years with the Red Devils, insisted that he ‘didn’t like’ Onana’s actions and insisted the keeper could’ve acted differently.

‘I saw that thing with Maguire and I didn’t like it one bit,’ Foster said on The United Stand channel. ‘I don’t think it’s necessary. I get it, you’re annoyed but it’s a pre-season friendly. You don’t need to go shouting and raving.

‘I guarantee you, every player in any dressing room up and down the country will have seen that and gone ‘nah that’s bang out of order.”

Speaking after the game, Onana affirmed he has a good relationship with Maguire but insisted he must ‘be ready’ when he is on the ball.

‘I try to demand a lot from him because I know he is a good player,’ Onana told MUTV.

‘He’s one of the captains of the team. He’s big, he’s good with the ball so I will demand him a lot. He’s a great guy, I have a good relationship with him.

Former captain Maguire could leave United this summer amid interest from a number of teams

England international Maguire could be on his way out of Old Trafford in the near future, after West Ham launched a £60m double-bid for him and Scott McTominay.

The Hammers had a £20m bid for Maguire rejected last month as well as a loan approach but their latest offer is much closer to the Red Devils’ £35m valuation.

They have also tabled an offer for midfielder McTominay, but that falls £15m short of United’s desired £45m for the 26-year-old and has been rejected.

Mail Sport understands that United will not force the two to leave and the ball is in West Ham’s court to hit the target in excess of £70m for the duo.
