Newcastles appointment of Howe as manager in danger of collapse at 12th hour

Newcastle United have been dealt a fresh blow in their pursuit of a manager as Eddie Howe looks set to snub the Magpies.

The former Bournemouth boss looked set to be announced as Newcastle's new manager on Saturday with a two-and-a-half-year deal.

However, after lengthy negotiations, Howe has failed to secure a deal that would see his backroom staff join him in the North East.

According to The Mirror, Howe is now considering his options with the new Newcastle owners holding firm.

And the proposed deal could be in danger if an agreement is not reached between the two parties.

Should Howe not end up in the hot seat at St James Park, he would be the second manager that Newcastle have missed out on in a week.

The Toon Army looked set to have secured Villarreal boss Unai Emery earlier on in the week.

However, talks broke down after Emery harboured doubts about the owners’ inability to grasp his vision for saving the club and underestimating the size of the task ahead.

Emery was also reportedly fuming at the talks being leaked ahead of the Yellow Submarine's Champions League clash.

Interim boss Graeme Jones will be in the dugout for Newcastle's fixture with Brighton this weekend.

Jones, who briefly worked with Howe at Bournemouth said: "One thing I know about Eddie without working with him, he lives for the game, it’s his whole life."

"If you think you can come to Newcastle United and do it part-time, then you’re mistaken, It requires every ounce you’ve got.

"He’s intense and he’s got exceptional Premier League experience, so if that is the route the club does down, I’m sure he’s more than capable…he comes with a wealth of experience, knows the league."
