Mbappe joins PSG team-mates in dressing room as he ‘enters contract talks’

Kylian Mbappe visited his PSG team-mates before their Ligue 1 opener – with reports suggesting he now wants to stay.

Mbappe wasn't in the squad as his side got their title defence underway at the Parc des Princes on Saturday (August 12) night due to his ongoing contract standoff.

It had been suggested he may be banned from attending the game, having been training away from the main first-team group. But he joined them in the dressing room pre-match.

And then as he made his way up into the stands for kick-off, news broke from French outlet Canal Plus that he and PSG chiefs will start new discussions over a contract extension.

They claim he's changed his mind about wanting to leave the club. Mbappe made it clear earlier this summer that he would not be activating the option of an extra year in his current deal.

He was swiftly put on the transfer list as a result, with PSG adamant they can't let him walk away as a free agent next year. But now they may no longer have that fear.

Mbappe wasn't the only star left out of the matchday squad, with Neymar and Marco Verratti also missing with both linked to the exit door too. The 24-year-old was joined by his brother Ethan, his dad Wilfrid, and his mum Fayza Lamari, as well as new summer signing Ousmane Dembele.

They watched on as PSG played out a stalemate with Lorient. A frontline of Marco Asensio, Goncalo Ramos and Vitinha couldn't find a breakthrough.

Manager Luis Enrique had expressed his wish to see a resolution be reached with Mbappe in his pre-match media duties, telling reporters: "I hope that the club and the player will find an agreement."
