Paris Saint-Germain have sacked Mauricio Pochettino just weeks after winning the Ligue 1 title.

PSG wrapped up their eighth French championship in the last 10 seasons with a 1-1 draw against Lens. But that wasn't enough to keep Pochettino in a job with his tenure now at an end.

The Qatari-backed club look set to appoint former Lille and Nice boss Christophe Galtier as their third managers in four seasons after Pochettino followed Thomas Tuchel and Unai Emery out of the door at Parc des Princes. The 50-year-old Argentine struggled to assert his authority in the French capital and failed where it mattered most – in the Champions League.

Appointed on January 2, 2021, Pochettino won 15 of his first 21 league matches in charge. But that wasn't enough to overhaul minnows Lille, who clinched a surprise league title by a single point on the final day of the season.

Pochettino won the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions in his first season in charge at the club but came up short in the Champions League, going out to Manchester City in the semi-finals.

After reaching the final in 2020 and the semi-finals in 2021, PSG had hoped that 2022 would be the year when they finally realised their European dream. But they failed to make it past the last-16, surrendering a 2-0 aggregate lead in the space of 17 minutes in the second leg against a Karim Benzema-inspired Real Madrid.

From that moment on the writing was on the wall for Pochettino, who has faced accusations of failing to get the best out of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

His time at Parc des Princes was also tainted by frequent suggestions he might move away from PSG, particularly last summer after his former club Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho.

Spurs appointed Nuno Espirito Santo instead and then turned to Antonio Conte after sacking the Portuguese manager in November. Nevertheless, rumours of a reunion between Pochettino and Tottenham have continued to persist.

American outlet CBS claims former Marseille and Toulouse defender Galtier is set to replace Pochettino in the French capital. The 55-year-old has reportedly agreed a two-year deal with the current Ligue 1 champions, which includes a potential 12-month extension.
