Man Utd to raid Real for £60m Valverde who could solve midfield problems

Manchester United will reportedly look to strengthen their fragile midfield with Real Madrid player Federico Valverde in the coming window.

The Red Devils are enduring a slump in form and have lost three of their last five Premier League games as pressure on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues.

The side went gung-ho over the summer transfer window and brought in Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo, but the links to central midfielders, such as Saul Níguez and Eduardo Camavinga, did not amount to anything.

And so the club will look to the January transfer window to salvage their season. An option is the highly-rated Declan Rice, who’s been in superb form, but West Ham have priced the youngster at above £100million.

So now, according to El Nacional, the Red Devils have decided to try and ply away Valverde from Los Blancos and are planning to bid £60m for the midfielder.

The 23-year-old was superb under Zinedine Zidane in the Spanish capital, but so far this season, he has only a single assist to his name and struggled to find first-team football, facing competition from Casemiro, Toni Kross, and Luka Modric.

The Uruguayan signed a contract extension with Real in August and manager Carlo Ancelotti sees him as a key asset for the future, according to reports.

Another battle United face is the fact Valverde has a release clause set at £856m (€1bn).

According to reports, the La Liga player is thought to be a replacement for Paul Pogba, who has his contract up in the summer.

The Frenchman has been linked with Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus – but it’s thought the 28-year-old could be used as part of a swap deal with Ancelotti’s side, with Valverde heading to Old Trafford.

Pogba, who is currently out injured, last featured when he picked up a red card during United’s hefty 5-0 defeat to Liverpool in October.
