Manchester United star Antony has revealed he calls Casemiro ‘guard dog’ following their summer moves to Old Trafford. The Brazilian duo have both made positive impressions throughout their brief time in English football. And they’ll be hopeful of propelling the Red Devils to the biggest trophies on offer in the coming months and years ahead.

Manchester United signed Casemiro from Real Madrid back in the summer, paying a huge £70million to acquire the services of the Brazil international.

And fellow Brazilian Antony then arrived late in the window, setting the Red Devils back a huge £86m in the process.

Antony has now spoken to club media, revealing he calls Casemiro a ‘guard dog’ – while insisting he should work on his goal celebrations in future.

“I always say he’s our guard dog in the middle,” joked the 22-year-old.

“He’s a no-nonsense guy, a more serious type. I think he’ll leave these goal celebrations to us attacking players!”

Man Utd transfers: Plans for next three signings are damning on Solskjaer

The interview took place before Casemiro got off the mark for United, as he scored a late equaliser in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea.

And he had said beforehand that goals weren’t really his responsibility, with the Samba star focused more on defending instead.

“I think the goals have to come naturally,” said the 30-year-old, who won the lot during his glittering spell at Real Madrid.

“Everybody knows my work. My role is defensive – to help my team-mates and bring the ball out from the back with quality.

“I defend, first of all, and provide balance to the team. I help my team-mates with defensive work, bring the ball out with quality, that is my job.

“Of course, a goal here or there is nice but doing my job and defending well comes first.”

Casemiro had a slow start to life in English football but now, finally, is beginning to come good.

And he’s won plaudits from several sources in recent days, with Rio Ferdinand saying: “I saw control.

“That’s one of the best things. We saw in the first half we had 19 shots and I’m sitting there thinking we’ve done everything but score.

“We were controlled and Casemiro, the moment he’s got in the team and got a run in the team, he’s produced performances that we expected.

“The biggest thing is he’s the glue in the team and he’s allowing other players to go and perform.

“He protects the back four but he releases the midfielders to go and do their creative stuff.

“He’s a fabulous acquisition. I don’t know what the manager was waiting for. He’s someone who looks like he likes a winning team and continuing with personnel. I thought Casemiro positionally today was immense.”

And Owen Hargreaves thinks Casemiro is undroppable for United, with the former midfielder saying: “Casemiro is the one that’s going to come and stay, he’s going to play all the time.

“Martinez with Varane and Casemiro in front with De Gea that four seems like a really solid block.

“I think if they can keep clean sheets with the attacking players they have, I know Ronaldo didn’t start, didn’t come on and didn’t come off the bench and wasn’t happy about it.

“The point is the team look really settled today, defending, in possession and attacking so that bodes well.

“Casemiro is going to play that’s a fact. He looks such a natural in there and when you’ve won the Champions League five times you probably have a right to start every game.”
