Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have been handed a temporary reprieve by Manchester United but there are a number of candidates who are being considered for the Old Trafford role should the Norwegian fail to arrest their alarming form, according to reports.
Solskjaer’s job is believed to be hanging by a thread following last weekend’s humiliating 5-0 defeat to arch-rivals Liverpool.
Despite some reports indicating otherwise, Solskjaer is set to be in charge for United’s Premier League clash with Tottenham on Saturday evening.
But the United boss needs a positive result – or the Old Trafford hierarchy could act.

A host of names would be interested in taking the role should the axe fall on Solskjaer in the coming weeks, with the vast majority of potential targets for United currently out of work.
Antonio Conte has emerged this week as the early frontrunner to succeed Solskjaer, with the Italian currently out of work after leading Inter Milan to the Scudetto last year.
According to EuroSport, the former Chelsea boss is preparing a pitch for United chiefs to ensure he’s thoroughly prepared if they come calling in the near future.

Conte reportedly has a preference not to take a job halfway through the year to ensure he has the opportunity to oversee pre-season work and transfer proceedings, but it’s understood that he would make an exception for the United job.
Former Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane is another out-of-work candidate who would reportedly be of interest to the Old Trafford hierarchy should the vacancy arise.
The Frenchman guided Real to two La Liga titles and three Champions League triumphs across his two spells coaching the club.
Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag is seemingly the only coach currently in a job that United hold an interest in.

Ten Hag has been linked with a move to the Premier League on numerous occasions over the past year, with Tottenham showing an interest in appointing him in the summer before Ajax handed him a new deal.
But the Dutchman has his admirers in Manchester – and the job he’s done reinvigorating Ajax has not gone unnoticed across Europe.
For now, though, United are standing by their beleaguered boss in the wake of their biggest ever defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford.
The same report states that the club’s decision-makers don’t want to give up on the work that Solskjaer has done over his tenure so far, but he is under very real pressure to turn around their dismal form to prevent United from being forced into a change.
