Liverpool fans blame Klopp as star midfielder Thiago out injured for a month

Liverpool fans have taken aim at Jurgen Klopp following news midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be out for a month due to injury.

The Reds have a number of players sidelined with Thiago the latest to hit the treatment table due to a hip flexor problem. He is now set to miss Monday's Merseyside derby against rival neighbours Everton, as well as Premier League clashes with Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Wolves, Manchester United and Borunemouth.

Thiago, 31, is also ruled out of the first leg of Liverpool's Champions League last 16 tie against Real Madrid, while he could also be a doubt for the second leg next month if he suffers any setbacks. His absence is the last thing Klopp needs at a time when pressure is mounting amid intense scrutiny on his under-performing team.

While injuries are almost nigh on impossible to plan for, some of Liverpool's supporters believe Klopp should have seen this coming. One furious fan wrote on Twitter: "We made Thiago, an INJURY PRONE player, start 10 games in a row and people act surprised when he gets injured."

Another felt the same way, tweeting: "We all know this was coming. It's unlike Thiago to stay this long without an injury. How on earth did Klopp not think to get a midfielder."

Liverpool and Klopp's failure to invest in a new option in the middle of the park last summer and in January was a common theme of frustration among the club's fanbase, made worse by losing Thiago to injury.

"All Liverpool fans knew this Thiago injury was coming sooner or later even last season," one fan said. "But Klopp and others didn't buy a single midfielder in summer and January transfer window."

Another fan slammed the situation, tagging #FSGOUT and #FSGGREED in a passionate post, which read: "Thiago injured and out for long time has come as no surprise. A diabolical January window where replacement were available and not taken up. Flogging Thiago to do death every game, u get what u sow."

Fortunately for Klopp, he should soon be able to welcome back loan signing Arthur Melo to bolster his options. Arthur has made just one appearance since joining on a temporary basis from Juventus last summer. Virgil van Dijk, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino have also recently returned to training and could be back in action soon as the Reds look to reverse their slump.
