Liverpool fans arrested after climbing up Anfield to watch match from roof

Three Liverpool fans were arrested after climbing onto the roof of Anfield to watch their 5-2 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid.

Self-proclaimed adrenaline junkie and professional climber Kain Hogg and two of his friends managed to sneak in through the construction site at the Road End, which is currently being redeveloped, last Tuesday (February 21) having failed to obtain tickets for the match.

They'd disguised themselves as workers by wearing hi-vis jackets and were only spotted on the roof two-thirds of the way into the loss for Jurgen Klopp's Reds. Police were called and they agreed to climb down before being arrested.

Hogg, who is from Kendal in Cumbria, has a YouTube channel with nearly 3,000 subscribers. He said: "Tickets were sold out so the roof was our only option. We're very sorry to Liverpool FC and to the police that had to deal with the situation.

"When we were forced to come down we were surrounded by about 30 policemen and we spent 20 hours in a cell before being charged.

"We didn't mean to upset anyone, we just wanted to watch our team play football in the Champions League."

The three men are set to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court on March 27 after being charged with ticket evasion, entering premises and obtaining services dishonestly.

Unfortunately for them, they would've seen all five of Real's goals as the European Champions came back from 2-0 down to put themselves in the ascendency ahead of the second leg of the round-of-16 tie at the Santiago Bernabeu in Spain next month.
