Lionel Messi’s WAG left red-faced after mistaking Inter Miami team-mate for him

Lionel Messi’s WAG was left red-faced after 'mistaking' an Inter Miami team-mate for her husband.

Messi’s gorgeous wife Antonela Roccuzzo, along with their three children, followed the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to the United States following his move from Paris Saint-Germain.

She was in the crowd as Inter Miami beat Cincinnati in the semi-final of the US Open Cup on Thursday, where Messi played a starring role. Antonela took the field at the final whistle as she sought to congratulate her husband.

But having thought she'd spotted the Argentine and approached with out-stretched arms for a hug and a kiss, the 35-year-old quickly realised it wasn’t Messi – but rather his long-time Barcelona and current teammate Jordi Alba.

The hilarious interaction was filmed from the stands and soon went viral on social media. It showed Alba – sporting a thick new Messi-like beard – and Roccuzzo, who often go on family holidays together, moving their heads towards each other.

But before any hug or kiss could occur, Antonela realised it wasn’t the man she had known since childhood and the pair awkwardly moved side to side while laughing. The Rosario-born WAG then swiftly moved on to find Messi.

Do you think Antonela really confused Alba for Messi? Let us know in the comments section.

Yet there was also another theory on social media that sought to explain the bizarre interaction. One fan suggested that Antonela had not confused Alba for Messi at all, but had simply pulled away from the Spaniard due to how sweaty he must have been post-game.

While we won’t know the truth of the awkward encounter, there is little doubt that Antonela has been loving life in Miami since leaving Paris. She was spotted on a night out with Victoria Beckham earlier this month, posing for a photo with the Inter Miami co-owner’s wife along with several other WAGs.

Leo and Antonela even have a favourite restaurant located on Miami beach in Cafe Prima Pasta – an Italian spot founded in 1993 which is believed to have been frequented by the World Cup winner since he first visited 12 years ago.
