Leeds United will be desperately keen to use the upcoming January transfer window to their advantage as Jesse Marsch looks to prepare his squad for the all-important Premier League run-in. The Whites currently find themselves just two points clear of the drop zone and could reap the rewards of adding some extra quality to their ranks between now and the end of next month.

Leeds splashed over £90million on new players over the summer, with the likes of Brenden Aaronsen and Tyler Adams making the switch to Yorkshire as part of a big-money spending spree at Elland Road. Their arrivals have done little to stave off the threat of Premier League relegation, though, with Leeds now aiming to make further improvements in January as they look to keep their divisional rivals at arm’s length.

A number of potential targets have been mentioned in connection with Leeds over the last few weeks, with Marsch said to have identified a handful of problem areas in need of strengthening in the not-too-distant future. However, it remains to be seen which direction they will ultimately decide to go in when the bidding opens in just seven days’ time.

Barcelona keen on Raskin

Barcelona are weighing up a move for reported Leeds target Nicolas Raskin on a free transfer, according to Mundo Deportivo. The 21-year-old was linked with the Whites over the summer but ultimately ended up staying at Standard Liege, where he remains tied down until the end of the season.

Raskin looks firmly set to leave his current club as a result of his contract situation and Barcelona are said to be exploring the possibility of snapping him up ahead of Leeds when the campaign draws to a close. The Yorkshire club may reportedly decide to jump the queue by submitting a cash offer for his services in January, although this is thought to be a relatively unlikely scenario as things stand.

Marsch wants two deals

Leeds will reportedly look to sign at least two new players next month, with the addition of a striker and a left-back said to be at the very top of their priority list. That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Marsch is painfully aware that a quiet January window could spell trouble for Leeds in their ongoing bid to secure Premier League survival for a third successive year.

Philadelphia Union defender Kai Wagner is named as one of several players under consideration by those in power at Elland Road, with Marsch seemingly eager to raid the MLS in his search for reinforcements at the back. No specific attacking targets are mentioned in the report, but there is said to be a clear desire to sign at least one new forward in order to provide the squad with an injection of extra firepower ahead of the business end of the campaign.

Klich poised for January exit

Mateusz Klich will quit Leeds in order to sign for DC United next month, according to French journalist Sebastien Denis, who claims that a deal is almost done to see the 32-year-old link up with Wayne Rooney’s squad on the other side of the Atlantic.

“Info: Mateusz Klich will leave Leeds United,” wrote Denis on his personal Twitter account. “The Polish international midfielder is set to join MLS outfit DC United. Deal completed at 95 per cent.”

It remains to be seen whether Leeds will attempt to replace Klich with another midfield option before the January window draws to a close. He has found himself bumped down the pecking order at Elland Road over the last few months, with the likes of Adams and Marc Roca often getting the nod to start in the engine room since the beginning of the Premier League campaign.
