Gary Neville has renewed his feud with superagent Mino Raiola over claims that it was the Dutchman who convinced Erling Haaland to join Borussia Dortmund over Manchester United. Haaland had scored a remarkable 29 goals in just 27 games for Red Bull Salzburg by December 2019, attracting the interest of United, Juventus and Bayern Munich among others.

But instead, Dortmund won the race to sign the Norwegian, paying Salzburg what now looks to be a bargain price of just £17million for the striker.

Haaland has gone on to star at Signal Iduna Park, cementing his reputation as one of football’s next superstars.

His astonishing goals return includes 13 strikes in just 10 games so far this season, though he is set to be ruled out with a long-term injury.

The Norwegian’s goals helped Dortmund to win the DFB-Pokal last term, as well as claim a top four place despite a poor start to their campaign.

He will see a release clause activated at the end of this season, with United among the clubs set to be interested in signing him.

But the Red Devils may have been able to acquire Haaland 18 months ago, had Raiola not convinced his client to snub a move to Old Trafford.

According to Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke, the striker had offers on the table from both United and the Black and Yellow.

And though the Red Devils offered his client a better package, Raiola convinced Haaland to move to Germany.

“Our offer for Haaland was not the best. The offer from Manchester United was better,” Watzke told German outlet Sport1.

“However Mino Raiola realised that Erling is better off with us. People notice that gifted people make a breakthrough with us the quickest.

“That is a resounding argument for the players, the parents of the players and the advisors. We have no inhibitions about letting 17-year-olds play.”

But Neville does not believe that Raiola’s advice was not solely due to playing time, with the former United captain insisting that it came down to how much the agent would bank from the deal.

“We all know why. He structures his deals with clubs that will give him a large % of the transfer fee when the player leaves!” Neville tweeted in response to a graphic showing Watzke’s quotes.

It is the latest in a long line of spats between Neville and Raiola, with the former previously insisting that United must refuse to do business with the superagent

“Why they allow themselves to be played by him I’ll never know. Manchester United should just stand strong and say if you’re represented by him we won’t deal with you,” he said in February 2020.

Raiola hit back at Neville by launching a sarcastic attack on the fortunes of Salford City, who the former defender part owns.

“Gary Neville has so much know-how about football. I’m surprised that his Salford City are not in the Premier League already. I don’t care what Gary Neville says,” Raiola told talkSPORT.
