Manchester City fans have joked that Gabriel Jesus’ exceptional performance against Watford is down to his Arsenal links.
The Brazilian star, 25, has been linked to the Gunners in recent weeks and his superb display against the Hornets – in which he scored four goals – has some supporters believing that he is upping his game purely because of the links.
The forward stunned fans after scoring four times, including a penalty, as Man City crushed Watford 5-1 at the Etihad. And, indeed, supporters joked that his jaw-dropping display was down to the rumours linking him to north London.
One fan online quipped: “Gabriel Jesus saw those Arsenal links & took it personal.” A second said: “Jesus took those Arsenal threats to heart.”
A third wrote: “Jesus putting on a show for Arsenal today." And another said: “Arsenal will have a very good player in Gabriel Jesus.”
Indeed, Jesus is thought to be leaving Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer, with his contract up in 2023 and Erling Haaland arriving from Borussia Dortmund. It's understood that the Norwegian striker’s intermediaries have reached an initial agreement over personal terms, meaning opportunities could be few and far between for Jesus.

The Athletic report that Arsenal are looking into signing the striker and that their technical director Edu and the player’s representatives have held talks.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has previously worked with Jesus when the Spaniard was working as assistant to Guardiola at Man City. Jesus joined Man City from Palmeiras in 2016 and has played 229 games in all competitions for the northwest club, netting 89 times.
