Manchester United legend Paul Scholes insisted Erik ten Hag’s side can win the quadruple.
The legendary midfielder watched his former side book themselves a place in the Europa League round of 16 by coming from behind to secure an impressive 2-1 victory over Barcelona at Old Trafford. Having already secured a 2-2 draw at the Nou Camp, United looked to be in danger of crashing out when Robert Lewandowski gave the Catalans a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.
However, second half goals from Fred and Antony, the latter of which a second half substitution for the tireless, but albeit ineffective on the night, Wout Weghorst, secured a 4-3 victory on aggregate. In and amongst the adrenaline and the excitement, Scholes, just as he did after the first leg at the Nou Camp, found himself talking up United’s chances of winning the Premier League, the Europa League, the FA Cup, and the League Cup.

“It is still on,” Scholes defiantly said on BT Sport, just like he did after the first leg. ”In the top five leagues in Europe we are the only ones who can still win the quadruple.
“Look it is there, it’ll be difficult but who knows.” On Sunday, United have the opportunity to take the first step towards the ‘Quadruple’ when they face Newcastle United in the League Cup Final. They are currently trailing first placed Arsenal by five points in the Premier League and also host West Ham United in the FA Cup 5th round on March 1.
But while Scholes is not technically wrong about the potential opportunities in front of United, supporters were not quite ready to join in with him.
"Scholes didn’t just drop that United can still win the quadruple did he," one fan laughed on social media. "Paul Scholes talking about the quadruple. Goodness me," another added.
"Clutching at straws here mate. Like Scholes has just said the 'quadruple' is still on," one other fan commented, simultaneously having a dig at his friend and the former England midfielder. Meanwhile, Scholes may have also given one United fan a sleepless night by his assertion.
"Paul Scholes just mentioned the quadruple word and now I can’t sleep," they tweeted.
