Fans in hysterics after spotting 6ft 6in Newcastle defender Dan Burn’s car

Fans have been left in hysterics after discovering which car Newcastle’s Dan Burn drives.

At 6ft 6in, the defender stands as one of the tallest players in the Premier League. The towering 30-year-old has been integral to the Magpies’ success since his move in the summer, offering a commanding presence at the back for Eddie Howe’s side.

And very few people, if anyone at all, would have correctly guessed the humble and modest nature of his choice of vehicle off the pitch – especially given its size.

Ex-Brighton man Burn was snapped signing autographs for fans this week in a Smart car. And fans online were left baffled at how the defender fit so comfortably in his compact motor.

One Twitter user wrote: "The fact Big Dan Burn drives a Smart Car makes me love him even more. What a guy!"

Another joked: “Looks like Burn stole Lamptey’s car when he left Brighton."

A third said: “I don't even physically understand how this is possible, I'm 6'2 and they feel tiny and he's way taller than I am.

And another guessed that Burn may in fact have something more luxurious awaiting him in his garage, tweeting: “Must be a forfeit for something during training…”

Burn played 90 minutes on Saturday as Newcastle were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home by Leeds United. Nevertheless, Howe’s side continue to exceed expectations in third place as they aim to secure a Champions League qualification spot.
