Former Manchester United striker Brian McClair has been spotted sporting a bushy white beard and long, wispy locks, leaving fans completely baffled.

The former Scotland international, who made more than 450 appearances for the Red Devils over an 11-year spell, posed for a photo with a supporter while sipping a pint in a Manchester pub on Monday night.

When the snap emerged online, fans couldn't get over McClair's … interesting new facade, with some joking he looked homeless and others suggesting he looked like a rock star.

"Is that actually Brian McClair? He could do with a trim," one fan tweeted.

"He's let himself go a bit. Looks homeless. Still great to see him though," wrote another. A third commented: "McClair looks like a rock star 10 years after the band broke up. What a legend."

McClair, who was nicknamed 'Choccy' (short for chocolate eclair), won four league titles and two FA Cups during his time at Old Trafford, which spanned from 1987 to 1998.

In his debut season he scored 24 league goals, becoming the first United player to surpass 20 league goals in one season since George Best in 1967-68. He began his career at Motherwell in 1981 before joining Celtic in 1983.

Following his spell at United, McClair moved back to Motherwell for a season before officially hanging up his boots mid-way in 1999. After retiring, McClair took on a coaching role at Blackburn Rovers before returning to United, where he spent several years as Youth Academy Director.
