Erling Haaland has been urged to move to the Premier League if he leaves Borussia Dortmund in the summer to attempt to break the league’s all-time goalscorer record. The Norwegian sensation is expected to leave the German club next summer after his agent dropped strong hints indicating that he is exploring his options.

The 21-year-old has been in incredible form since bursting onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg in 2019, earning a £17million switch to Dortmund in January 2020.

Haaland has fired 76 goals in 75 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit and his representative Mino Raiola will have the choice of picking his next destination from a whole host of Europe’s top clubs.

Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a move for the Norway international.

It is understood that Haaland has a release clause written into his contract allowing him to leave the club this summer for €75m (£64m) — a huge drop on Dortmund’s £160m asking price last summer when Chelsea enquired about his availability.

Man United are thought to be keen on reviving a move for Haaland after impressing interim coach Ralf Rangnick with his performances in Germany.

And Chelsea legend Joe Cole is keen for the lethal frontman to try his luck in England to see if he can top the goalscoring charts in the Premier League.

The record was set by Alan Shearer when he was playing for Newcastle, with the Toon legend finishing his career with 260 Premier League goals.

And if Haaland decides to join one of the Premier League’s leading clubs, Cole believes he will go on to break Shearer’s record for the most goals in the Premier League.

“I think if he comes over, at the age he is at now, he will go and break Shearer’s record,” Cole said in his Coral vlog.

“If he stays for 10 years, I think he will break all records.”

Like Haaland, Kylian Mbappe has emerged as a potential target for the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

The 23-year-old is out of contract in June 2022 and can speak to foreign clubs about negotiating a pre-contract agreement from January 1.

Real Madrid are expected to land the French star, but the Premier League duo are expected to rival the Spanish giants for his signature.

Whatever happens, Cole believes that whichever team snaps up Mbappe or Haaland next year will be favourites to the win the domestic title.

“I think the crazy thing is they’re both flirting with leaving their clubs so the Premier League will be on notice,” he added.

“If one of them come to any of the top three, they’re automatically favourites for the title next year because there’s only a handful of players out there that you can put into that top three and make them better.

“Mbappe is probably a more rounded player, but I think Haaland just excites me. It’s just the way he runs, I think he’ll develop into a leader as well.

“I think a leader of men as he gets older I think he’ll be a captain.”
