Elche 2-3 Real Betis: Visitors come from two goals down to win with stoppage time penalty from Willian Jose, with hosts reduced to nine men, on the day Betis drew Man United in the Europa League

  • Elche went 2-0 up in the space of the opening ten minutes against Real Betis
  • The visitors clawed their way back after the hosts were reduced to ten men 
  • Earlier on, Real Betis were drawn against Man United in the Europa League 

Real Betis came from two goals down to beat Elche 3-2 in LaLiga, with Willian Jose stepping up to score the winning penalty in stoppage time. 

Elche went 2-0 up in ten minutes. Fidel converted a penalty in the seventh minute of the match, while Lucas Boye doubled the hosts’ advantage just two minutes later. 

But in the second half, Elche’s Lisandro Magallan was dismissed after a VAR check, and then Real Betis got back level through Borja Iglesias’s penalty and Juan Miranda. 

Iglesias had the chance to win it two minutes from time, but his penalty was expertly saved by the Elche goalkeeper Edgar Badia. 

Elche’s Enzo Roco was sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time, gifting the visitors a penalty. After Iglesias’s miss, Willian Jose stepped up for Real Betis and he made no mistake to seal the turnaround.

Lucas Boye scored for the hosts two minutes later to double Elche’s advantage in LaLiga

Borja Iglesias scored the first and played a key part in getting the second goal for Real Betis

Earlier on Friday, Real Betis were drawn against Premier League side Manchester United in the last-16 of the Europa League.
