David Beckham could not hide his pride as his son Romeo followed in his footsteps and scored his first Inter Miami goal with a trademark free-kick.

The former England captain was deadly from dead-ball situations during his playing days, netting many memorable strikes for both club and country. Romeo has big shoes to fill on that front, but the teenager looks to have taken lessons from his old man judging by his first goal for his father's MLS franchise.

It is almost impossible to ignore the parallels as the 19-year-old stepped up to the ball in the closing stages of the second-string clash against Orlando City on Sunday. Romeo took a confident few strides forward, before whipping his 25-yard effort into the net via the post.

Beckham's second son was mobbed by team-mates as the 84th-minute strike sealed a 3-1 victory against their state rivals. Perhaps most importantly however, it was a free-kick which earned praise from the master himself.

Having watched Romeo score for his franchise, David posted a congratulatory message to his son on Instagram. The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star wrote: “Well done mate so proud. First goal in a MIAMI shirt.”

The message was warmly received by the goalscorer, who dedicated his maiden strike for his new side to his father. Romeo replied: “Love you dad, that was for you.”

It is not the first time David has taken to social media to share positive messages and updates on his son, who signed his first professional deal with Inter Miami in September. As well as sharing a penchant for spectacular free-kicks, Romeo also plays on the right-wing like his father.

David's former United team-mate Phil Neville is in charge of the franchise's senior side, but the team are currently struggling in the Eastern Conference. Miami sit 10th in the table having won just six of their 18 fixtures so far.

Romeo is impressing in the MLS Next Pro League, so far registering seven assists in 14 appearances. However, Neville revealed he has been urged not to give the younger Beckham an easy ride into the senior setup.

He previously told the Sun: “I think the first thing that David said to me was, 'You have got to be harder on him than anyone else'. He has got to work harder than anyone else to get into that team because there will be questions, there will be expectations on his shoulders.”
