Chelsea are reportedly accelerating their plans to sign Lucas Digne on loan following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

The Blues are short on left wingback options with Marcos Alonso the only available player for Thomas Tuchel in that position after Ben Chilwell was ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.

Chelsea have been surveying their options with Digne among a number of candidates including Nicolas Tagliafico, Theo Hernandez and Ian Maatsen.

And The Sun reports that Chelsea are stepping up their plans to sign the French defender, with his future at Goodison Park looking bleak amid a falling out with Rafa Benitez.

Digne has not featured since the Toffees’ 4-1 loss at home to Liverpool and with the club signing Ukrainian left back Vitali Mykolenko, a move away looks likely.

Chelsea had previously attempted to recall Emerson from his loan spell at Lyon, but the same outlet reports that attention has turned to former Barcelona defender Digne.

The Blues will try to strike while the iron is hot, having already tied down veteran Thiago Silva to a contract extension. The 37-year-old has put pen to paper on a new one-year deal to keep him in west London until 2023.

‘I never thought I would play for three years here in this great club so I’m very happy to stay for another season,’ the Brazilian said.

Silva’s signing is a boost although Chelsea are fighting a losing battle in their attempts to keep Antonio Rudiger on board.

The German’s contract also expires next summer but he has been strongly linked with a move to Real Madrid, while Bayern Munich and PSG are also interested in the defender.
