Chelsea have ‘two on summer shortlist’ despite having 11 attackers

Lampard insists Chelsea 'will be back' after Champions League exit

Chelsea are in desperate need of player sales this summer to bolster the incoming head coach’s transfer budget and make the squad more manageable. But the Blues are reportedly eyeing two more forwards that could see their already-bloated attacking department contain 13 names.

The search for Graham Potter’s long-term replacement is well underway, with Mauricio Pochettino and Vincent Kompany said to be among the final few candidates.

But despite uncertainty over who will occupy the Stamford Bridge dugout next season, transfer plans also seem to be in place as the window grows closer.

And reports claim more attacking firepower is on the agenda during what promises to be another busy period in west London.

According to the Mail, Chelsea have explored Rafael Leao’s situation at AC Milan as recently as last week.

However, a cluster of compensation claims and sell-on clauses connected to contracts at former clubs Sporting Club and Lille could make a deal tricky.

The Blues are also interested in Atalanta starlet Rasmus Hojlund, who has also caught the eye of Manchester United this season.

The report adds that Chelsea also have a deal in place with teenage Benfica winger Diego Moreira over a free transfer at the end of the season.

If Chelsea are plotting attacking incomings, it seems a necessity that they would have to trim their current options.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to leave while making Joao Felix’s loan stint permanent appears unlikely.

But their exits would still leave 13 forwards, including returning loanees Romelu Lukaku and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Kai Havertz, Armando Broja and David Fofana would join Lukaku as striker options.

Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic, Mykhailo Mudryk, Raheem Sterling, Hakim Ziyech and Noni Madueke are the wingers currently at interim boss Frank Lampard’s disposal.

Mason Mount has also been used as a forward under Thomas Tuchel and Potter this season, but his future is in doubt over a continued contract dispute.

Chelsea will consider a handful of their current attackers as sellable assets, and they must utilise them this summer.
