Chelsea boss Graham Potter has been accused of ‘not liking’ Christian Pulisic in an astonishing claim from ex-USMNT star Eric Wynalda. Pulisic has struggled for Premier League game time under successive managers at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old is fighting to be match fit ahead of the World Cup, with the USA placed in a group with England and Wales. But he has started just once under new Chelsea manager Potter.

Pulisic – valued at £38million by transfermarkt – was not a favourite of previous head coach Tuchel, either. The likes of Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Raheem Sterling have all enjoyed more support from Chelsea bosses.

That has led to American former striker Wynalda to claim that Potter “doesn’t like” Pulisic and that the former Brighton tactician does not want to look at or talk to the player. “A lot of comments coming from Graham Potter suggesting that he’s (Pulisic) great around the place, he’s a good player, he’s a good guy, we’re all rooting for him,” the 53-year-old told Vegas Insider.

“Bottom line is Graham Potter doesn’t like him. He just doesn’t like him. He’s the one player that if he’s coming down the hallway, he’s looking for the side door. He doesn’t wanna talk to him. He doesn’t wanna look at him and nobody will admit that.”

Potter has reiterated that his priority is not a player’s hopes of playing at the World Cup. Instead, the 47-year-old is only focused on getting results with Chelsea.

The Blues boss has praised Pulisic for his contributions during his fleeting minutes on the pitch. He said: “You can imagine my focus is on Chelsea. I understand that all the players have ambition and want to play for different reasons – for their families, careers, finances or World Cups. That’s all fine but it’s my job to select the right team for whatever game.

“I am not saying I am right all the time, I am not but somebody has got to make the call. With Christian, I would say he has been fantastic around the place, been really good with teammates, and contributed against Wolves.

“He is pushing for a place, pushing for a start. Things change quickly in football and he needs to be ready.”

Pulisic will hope for an appearance against Manchester United on Saturday. Wide-ranging reports suggested that the Red Devils were interested in a summer deal for the USMNT captain, and claimed that United skipper Harry Maguire could go the other way in a stunning swap deal that never materialised.
