Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has refused to rule out Karim Benzema ahead of the Madrid derby this Sunday night.
The French forward, who has scored 12 LaLiga goals this season, limped off the pitch in the first-half of Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Sociedad last weekend and wasn’t involved in their Champions League win over Inter Milan on Tuesday.
Los Blancos have a healthy ten point lead on their close rivals Atletico, but with bragging rights up for grabs, Ancelotti will be hoping his star striker is available.
Karim Benzema picked up a knock during Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Sociedad on the weekend
With both Benzema and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro harbouring slight knocks, Ancelotti gave an injury update on the duo.
Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, Ancelotti said: ‘The team is well. We have some days to see the evolution of Benzema. He has trained individually today.
‘Casemiro is well and the rest will all be ready and prepared. Today, some were a little tired, but it’s normal after playing a game two days ago.
‘Tomorrow we will do some quite strong tactical work and Saturday some light preparation for the game.’
Carlo Ancelotti will wait to assess the extent of Benzema’s injury before the Madrid derby
Benzema wasn’t included in the squad against Inter Milan and is a doubt for the Madrid derby
During their win over Sociedad last week, Benzema had to be replaced by Luka Jovic inside 16 minutes.
Ancelotti told reporters: ‘the Benzema thing does not seem serious at all, but I do not think he will be available for Tuesday’.
The Frenchman has been on fire for Ancelotti’s side having scored his 12th league goals of the season at the start of the month.
The Frenchman has never reached 12 goals in so few games and is on course to break his record tally in one season for the club of 24 in 2016.
