Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes claimed youngster Alejandro Garnacho “didn’t have the best attitude” during the Reds’ pre-season tour.

Erik ten Hag deployed the young Spanish born Argentine in United’s vital away match over Real Sociedad. And the No.49 paid back his own manager’s faith with a fine goal to open the scoring for the Reds.

While he was not able to find or assist a second that would have taken United into the Round of 16 stages of the Europa League, he left a very good impression on Ten Hag and his teammates. But that has seemingly not always been the case, according to Fernandes.

"He was good, but he knows that we expect a lot from him," Fernandes said to BT Sports after the match.

“Obviously he's still really young, he's doing really well. He was not at his best at the beginning of the season.

“On the tour he didn't have the best attitude that he should have had, and that's why he didn't get his chances until now.

“He's getting his chances because he's training better, having a different attitude and deserving his chances." Garnacho reportedly peeved Ten Hag during United’s pre-season.

A report from the Athletic claimed he walked out of training with his laces untied, an act that reportedly connoted a lax attitude to the United boss. However, the laces were tied and he was on target for the Red Devils.

He will surely be looking to join Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga as players who have come through the United academy and into the first team.
