Britain’s tallest footballer stands 6ft 9in but was denied promotion into EFL

Britain’s tallest player stands at a whopping 6ft 9in but was sadly denied a place in the Football League.

Kyle Hudlin of Solihull Moors is a very distinctive player. His towering presence makes him the perfect target man, even standing some two inches taller than former Tottenham striker Peter Crouch. But he failed to reach League Two with his side after The Moors lost to Grimsby Town in the National League promotion play-off.

On Sunday, Hudlin's header gave his the lead on the stroke of half-time. But that goal was cancelled out John McAtee found the back of the net for Grimsby. Jordan Maguire-Drew then scored an extra-time winner as the Mariners made an immediate return to the Football League.

Hudlin was substituted off as the West Midlands side failed to make the grade. The striker, 21, joined Moors in 2020, whereupon he signed a two-year deal. Before the 2019/20 season, Hudlin managed to find the net some 25 times in just 22 games for Sunday league side Boldmere Falcons.

Things haven’t been as good this season, with the attacker finding the net four times out of 25 matches. Even still, speaking to The Sun in May, the youngster said that he has grand ambitions of earning a place in the Champions League,

He said: “I am enjoying life at Solihull right now, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have aspirations in England and in the Champions League. I don’t want to run before I can walk and I understand how high the jump is to that level, but I want to make that jump.”

The forward also spoke about some of the world-class stars he idolised growing up. “I have always been around the small technical players and you have to drop a skill in there,” he said.

“I would watch the likes of Ronaldinho, Robinho, Neymar, Messi, Ronaldo – his heading attributes are like he is a big guy.”

The forward was even linked with a sensational move to Manchester City in 2021 – with the club reportedly sending scouts to watch him last season.
