‘You never know what’s around the corner’: Brentford’s in-demand goalkeeper David Raya puts Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea on red alert as he teases a possible summer departure
- David Raya has said he has twice turned down a new Brentford contract
- However, the keeper says he is pleased to be with the Bees, despite exit rumours
- Man United, Spurs and Chelsea are all reported to be interested in signing Raya
Brentford goalkeeper David Raya has added fuel to the rumours that he could be on his way out of the club this summer by refusing to sign a new deal.
The Spanish shot-stopper is thought to have attracted the interest of Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in recent months, and could be on his way out of Brentford.
Speaking to PA, Raya said he was happy with the Bees, but is focusing on the job of maintaining Brentford’s strong Premier League campaign rather than his future.
The 27-year-old Bees keeper said: ‘I don’t think it’s the right time to sign a contract at the moment.
‘I’m really, really happy and right now I’m just thinking about doing the best for the team and trying to push for Europe.

‘I was offered a new contract last year and one in January but we didn’t reach an agreement. I would like to see what happens in summer, however I’m happy at Brentford.
‘For now a new contract is secondary, the most important thing is the team and the games. We’ll see where we are in May.
‘You never know what’s around the corner. There’s nothing I can say about what’s going to happen in the summer. I don’t even know what’s going to happen on Saturday.’
Brentford manager Thomas Frank spoke about the rumours of Raya’s exit in his pre-match press conference ahead of their match with league leaders Arsenal.
As previously reported by Sportsmail, Frank said: ‘If he turns [a contract] down twice then, unfortunately, that is a signal.
‘That being said, David has been amazing. He is one of the best keepers in the league.
‘He is one of the captains and leads with his performances and behaviour every day.’
The 27-year-old joined Brentford from Blackburn Rovers back in 2019, and has made 133 appearances for the Bees since joining.

The former Blackburn keeper was a key part of Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League
Raya, who has just over one year left on his contract, was a key part of Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
Tottenham are eyeing up a possible replacement for Hugo Lloris between the sticks, while Manchester United are in a similar boat concerning the future of their long-time stalwart David de Gea.
While Chelsea have two established goalkeepers within their ranks, it is possible that Todd Boehly and co. will seek a new face to make their mark on the position, with both Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga part of the club for many years.
