Bookmaker cheering on Man City because Liverpool quadruple will cost £1.5million

Bookmakers Betfair will be cheering on Manchester City in their Premier League title race with Liverpool that looks to go down to the wire.

The two sides are involved in a nip and tuck battle after neither was able to gain an advantage at their clash at the Etihad Stadium earlier this month. However, Betfair will be in City's corner, as a Liverpool win could cost them £1.5million.

Betfair had the Reds at 500/1 to complete the quadruple before the season kicked off – and 16 punters took the jump. Liverpool have already won the Carabao Cup, are one point behind the Premier League, in the final of the FA Cup, and still have a shout in Europe.

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom said: "It's not only Liverpool fans that will be cheering if they win a historic quadruple in a few weeks' time, our punters will also be dancing in the streets as we’re set to pay out £1.5million as things stand if the Reds manage to make history and lift all four major trophies.

"It’s safe to say we’re cheering on Man City tonight and for the final few weeks!

“Jurgen Klopp ’s side have been a very popular bet throughout the season and the quadruple has now been backed into 6/1. At the start of the season, they were 500/1 to make history, with 16 hopeful punters backing them at those massive odds.”

City rekindled some pride by hitting back twice in the second half, but Klopp's side advanced to the FA Cup final.
