Bayern Munich 'planning to play Sadio Mane WITH Robert Lewandowski'

Bayern Munich ‘planning to play Sadio Mane WITH Robert Lewandowski’ – rather than replacing him – with the Germans believing they could drag Liverpool’s price tag down to £34m

  • Robert Lewandowski has publicly declared his wish to leave Bayern Munich
  • But the German side are reluctant to sell as he enters final year of his deal
  • Sadio Mane is also in last 12 months of his Liverpool contract and wishes to leave

Bayern Munich are reportedly plotting a sensational swoop to sign Sadio Mane and partner him with wantaway striker Robert Lewandowski from next season.

The German champions are on the lookout for a new frontman despite the Polish striker netting an incredible 50 goals in just 46 games last term.

However, the 33-year-old was left furious by the club’s attempts to sign Erling Haaland as a long term replacement,  and with a year left to run on his contract has demanded he wants to leave the Allianz Arena.

Bayern though are not keen to let the Poland international go easily and instead are hoping to bolster their attacking ranks by adding Mane to their forward line.

According to Bild, the German side have already offered £25million for the Liverpool star but the Merseyside outfit are demanding nearly £20m more.

Bayern are more likely to negotiate for a fee around £34m should Liverpool wish to sell as the clubs haggle over a deal.

Lewandowski is furious with Bayern for trying to replace him with Erling Haaland

The move is still unlikely to keep Lewandowski happy however who has recently made his feelings public over his wishes to leave the club.

Lewandowski wants a new challenge in the autumn of his career, and Barcelona are interested in landing him. Barca though have been met by a wall of silence by Bayern over a £27m offer.

The Spanish champions are also financially hamstrung, and would likely have to sell a key star such as teenage sensation Pedri or Manchester United linked midfielder Frenkie de Jong to fund a move.

The Poland hitman has now made his feelings public while with the national team

Despite having pursued Haaland, who is now set to sign for Manchester City this summer, Bayern are reluctant to allow Lewandowski to leave as he enters the final 12 months of his deal – fearing they could strengthen a European rival in their bid to win the Champions League next season.

Speaking at a press conference with the Poland national team, Lewandowski revealed his desire to leave Bayern.

‘My era at Bayern is over,’ Lewandowski told reporters. ‘I don’t see any possibility to continue playing for this club anymore.

Mane is looking to leave Liverpool with just 12 months remaining on his current contract

‘Bayern’s a serious club and I believe they won’t keep me, I don’t want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don’t stop me.’

Mane meanwhile is in a similar situation at Liverpool, with a desire to move on and with 12 months left on his current deal.

However, despite Mane being welcome to Bayern’s advances – his club are also reluctant to let him depart and would rather he see out the final year of his contract.

Mane flourished in the second half of the season, having scored 13 of his 23 goals after winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal at the start of the year.
