Barca boss Xavi to raid Middle East for unknown Bounedjah as Aguero replacement

Xavi wants Barcelona to sign an unknown star who plays in the Middle East to ease their growing attacking crisis.

The new boss has only been in charge for a matter of weeks but already faces urgent issues with his frontline.

Summer signing Sergio Aguero looks set to announce his retirement due to heart problems, while Xavi has disregarded Luuk de Jong as a player he wants in his team.

And with the less than convincing Martin Braithwaite out with a long-term knee injury, Memphis Depay is the only striker option left.

So Xavi is turning to his former club Al Sadd.

That's according to Sport, who claim the Spanish boss has asked for Baghdad Bounedjah to be brought to the Nou Camp.

Xavi played alongside Bounedjah, 29, for Al Sadd before retiring and becoming his manager.

The Algeria international has scored 159 goals in 153 games since joining the Qatari club for around £3m in 2015.

He was top scorer in the Stars League last season and already has 11 goals to his name from nine matches so far this campaign.

Can a player from the Qatari league cut it in La Liga? Let us know in the comments section.

However, his best goalscoring season came in 2018/19, when he netted a record 39 times in 22 league games.

His 58 overall finishes in the calendar year of 2018 made him the world's most prolific player.

On the international stage, Bounedjah has bagged 22 goals in 50 caps for his nation, including the winning goal in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations final.

He's currently valued at roughly £5m according to transfermarkt, so would be a cheap option for the financially stricken La Liga side.

But it would be a big risk to expect his ruthlessness in front of goal in Qatar to be transferred to a major European league.

Xavi made a winning start to life as Barca boss at the weekend as his side beat rivals Espanyol 1-0.
