Arsenal have one of the most exciting young teams in the Premier League. Mikel Arteta inherited a subpar squad and has slowly but surely created a team destined for future success, which is made all the more likely if he can keep winger Bukayo Saka at the club.

The Gunners spent £150million on fresh faces this summer, all aged 24 and under, in order to strengthen the ranks but also give Arteta more talent to develop.

Aaron Ramsdale, Benjamin White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are already showing their worth in North London, though they are being somewhat outshone by the academy products at the club.

Emile Smith Rowe and Saka are two of Arsenal standout performers so far this season, and the latter has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Rivals Liverpool are reportedly the club who are keeping tabs on the England international and want to bring him to Anfield to replace one of their soon-to-be-sold forwards.

However, ex-Gunners defender Sol Campell has urged his former club to ensure that the 20-year-old puts pen to paper on a contract extension before it is too late.

Speaking to talkSPORT, Campbell said: “When you get young players who just come out and do really, really well, you’ve got to protect them, you’ve got to secure them.

“They’re the lifeblood for the fans, for their country, England, and especially Arsenal.

“You can’t allow top, top players to run their contracts down and move on because you’re taking too long.

“It’s happened before but that was all about big, big money, it took a long time to secure their contracts – why?

“When a club takes so long to secure the future of a player, if you wait too long, they’re going to get offers from other teams around.

“Sometimes you can agree a price but if you wait six months [to get the deal signed] the price might now be different, it could be more.

“So you’re thinking, why didn’t you secure that price six months ago, when you would have paid less money, secured the player and everyone would be happy, instead of trying to drag it out and trying to be clever with negotiations?”

Arsenal are thought to be keen to re-enter negotiations with the versatile winger and push him to extend upon his current deal, which expires in 2024.

However, according to The Transfer Window Podcast, Saka isn’t reluctant to explore the interest of Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The Reds see the winger as a long-term option in the final third and are willing to give the Gunners star the platform to propel his career to the next level.

It remains to be seen how long Arsenal wait to open negotiations with Saka, especially considering they are set to lose young striker Eddie Nketiah this summer when his contract expires despite Arteta’s best efforts.
