Arsenal have been rocked by a virus which has left certain members of Mikel Arteta's squad unable to train ahead of their trip to Leicester this weekend.

The Gunners' medical team are said to be running checks on a number of players before Saturday's lunchtime kick-off at the King Power Stadium, meaning Arteta will not be able to name his starting XI until the very last minute.

Centre-back duo Ben White and Pablo Mari have both been affected by the bug this week and there is now a fear that it could well have spread to more of their team-mates.

Mari was ruled out of Tuesday's Carabao Cup win over Leeds after being taken ill the night before, while White only lasted 55 minutes in the game before being replaced.

Before Saturday's game, Arteta revealed: “We’ve had a bit of sickness, tummy aches and stuff like that but hopefully everyone will be OK.

“Ben hasn’t trained yet so we will have to wait and see how he is feeling before we make a decision.

“A few players have been unable to train and we also picked up some knocks in the game against Leeds. Hopefully we will have better news.”

Arteta will hope the bug doesn't derail his side's solid run of form when they make the trip to Leicester.

The north London club have turned a corner of late, not suffering defeat since their 5-0 drubbing away at Manchester City back in August.

Their opening three losses against Brentford and Chelsea as well as City are long forgotten as a result, but Arteta admits there is still plenty for them to improve on.

"We go game by game and try to improve every single game," he said.
