Arsenal are reportedly “frontrunners” in the race to sign Fiorentina sensation Dusan Vlahovic in January – but have two other back-up options.
The Gunners are prioritising a forward signing this transfer window with 21-year-old Vlahovic top of Mikel Arteta and technical director Edu’s wish-list.
The North Londoners are understood to be considering an offer for the striker in a player-plus-cash deal that includes wantaway midfielder Lucas Torreira, who is currently on loan with the Italians.
And while their initial offer may prove too ambitious, The Athletic state Arsenal are in “the strongest position” to sign the Serb as they are able to pay both his transfer fee and salary.
Vlahovic only has a year-and-a-half remaining on his contract, which could force the side to sell their talisman in what is potentially the last opportunity to generate substantial cash from his transfer.
The forward, who has scored a staggering 16 Serie A goals this season, is being eyed by Arteta as the solution to his striker problems.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang’s future at the club looks in doubt after the Gabon international was stripped of his captaincy.
Meanwhile, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are currently on-track to leave as free agents in the summer.

But there is also a feeling that Vlahovic would prefer a move to Italian giants Juventus over the Gunners, despite the two sides’ seemingly opposite trajectories.
In a scenario where Vlahovic rejects Arsenal, The Athletic’s David Ornstein claims the club have alternatives at the ready in Alexander Isak and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Swedish international Isak has only netted eight times this season across all competitions but would provide crucial hold-up play in the absence of Lacazette.
Everton striker Calvert-Lewin would give Arteta a different threat up-front due to his aerial ability and proficiency at running the channels.
