Though Torres played and scored against Arsenal in pre-season, it is believed Toni Lima, a club scout appointed in 2021, triggered the North London side’s interest after identifying the winger.
Lima specialises in South American talent and is credited with being one of the first to notice Neymar and Philippe Coutinho during their playing days in Brazil.
