Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta reviews Newcastle game
Arsenal are reportedly close to tying down three of their most valuable stars to new deals ahead of the summer transfer window. Doing so would signify a huge boost for Mikel Arteta and Edu, giving them peace of mind ahead of a unified effort to strengthen the Gunners’ squad.
Much has been made of Arsenal’s transfer plans in the summer, with £120million-rated Declan Rice among their targets. But securing the future of top players already at the Emirates Stadium will also be a high priority if Arteta and co are to mount another title challenge against Manchester City next season.
No Gunners player has directly contributed to more Premier League goals this campaign than Bukayo Saka. The Arsenal academy graduate has 13 goals and 11 assists, although his contract is due to expire in 2024.
Speculation around his club future has rumbled on for months, but talkSPORT claim that a new deal is in the works that would see the 21-year-old become the club’s highest earner on £300,000 a week.

It is not clear whether that would be Saka’s base salary, but the overall package could throw a spanner in the works of Arsenal’s wage structure, which has been reigned in over the past few years.
Also closing in on new contracts, according to football.london, are goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and centre-back William Saliba. Both players have become fan favourites this campaign, but their current situations are enough to give supporters cause for concern.

Ramsdale is approaching the final two years of his deal, while Saliba’s contract expires in 2024, although the club have the option to extend it for another year. It therefore won’t be long before Edu comes under pressure to cash in while he can, unless renewed terms can be arranged.
The Gunners are reportedly ‘close’ to agreeing new contracts for Saka and Ramsdale, as well as being ‘confident’ that Saliba will stay in north London. The Frenchman has been a huge miss under Arteta over the past few weeks, with a back injury set to keep him out for the remainder of the season.
The 22-year-old had to wait patiently for his chance in the Premier League after signing in 2019, with three loan spells back to Ligue 1 sparking rumours that he could ditch Arsenal last summer.
Now a full French international and an undroppable member of Arteta’s back-four, Gunners fans will hope that the side can cope without him while Gabriel Magalhaes and back-up option Jakub Kiwior are tasked with closing the gap on Man City over the final three games of the season.
