Liverpool fans compared Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon to Dillian Whyte after his "pathetic" dive at Anfield.
Gordon fell to the ground inside the box midway through the first half under pressure from Naby Keita. The 21-year-old's attempts to win a penalty did not go down well with the hosts and a huge melee ensued between the two sets of players.
Richarlison, Seamus Coleman, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk were all involved in the altercation as things threatened to boil over on Merseyside. Replays confirmed that Gordon had indeed dived to try and win a spot kick and was booked for his troubles.
Fans watching on TV leapt onto Twitter to criticise the Everton midfielder, with some comparing his fall to the canvas to Tyson Fury's knockout on Dillian Whyte. Others called the attempt "pathetic" and "shameful."
One person wrote: "That’s shameful from Anthony Gordon. No place in the game for that behaviour. I know they’re all at it, but diving just needs to stop." Someone else said: "Gordon that is f***ing shameful."

A third person commented: "That Anthony Gordon dive is absolutely pathetic. He even rolled around holding his knee." While another user added: "Gordon is embarrassing. Play a decent game instead of rolling on the ground every 2 minutes."
One Liverpool fan even went so far as to document each moment he believed Gordon had dived in the game. The supporter detailed four attempts at simulation before Gordon finally went into the referee's notebook midway through the first half.
The two sides then went at it again just before half time as Liverpool refused to put the ball out of play following an apparent injury to Richarlison. The referee did eventually stop the game – but only after Abdoulaye Doucoure had fouled Fabinho.
That sparked another fracas in the middle of the pitch, resulting in a length delay to the end of the first half and a deserved booking for Doucoure.
