Valtteri Bottas will have to report to the stewards on Sunday ahead of the Qatar Grand Prix after ‘not respecting single waved yellow flags’. Mercedes set the pace in Qatar early this weekend with Bottas in top in both FP2 and FP3.

But it was Lewis Hamilton who rose to the occasion in qualifying, setting a blistering lap in Q3 to take pole.

The seven-time world champion had the slight advantage of being out first on track ahead of his rivals.

Red Bull would have hoped that would give Max Verstappen more time as the track continued to evolve in the final seconds of the session.

But neither Bottas or Verstappen were able to keep track of Hamilton’s pace, with the British racing superstar nearly half a second ahead of his rivals.
