Red Bull stance on hijacking Ferrari move for ‘showbiz’ star Lewis Hamilton

Hamilton opens up on plans to remain in F1 ahead of 2023 season

Red Bull are not interested in signing Lewis Hamilton over concerns about the seven-time champion’s showbiz lifestyle, according to reports. There are also fears a move to Red Bull could destabilise Max Verstappen’s dominance, says The Mail.

The Milton Keynes-based manufacturer apparently believe that a settled team is more important than a possible boost in interest through the signing of the British icon.

Red Bull have struggled with fierce driver pairings before with Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber clashing a decade ago. It comes just months after Red Bull boss Christian Horner confirmed the team had no interest in looking at a Hamilton move.

He was pushed on whether the Mercedes star could be an option after Toto Wolff hinted the champion could be free to walk away Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Wolff claimed he would have no issues with Hamilton looking elsewhere if the iconic marque could not provide him with a quick car.

Horner told Sky News: “Look, I think what Lewis has achieved in Formula One is second to none, but we’re very happy with the drivers that we have – they’re committed as a pair for not only this season but the next season as well.

“I can’t see where we would be able to accommodate Lewis, but I’m sure they’re [Mercedes] going to sort their issues out and we’re certainly not writing him off yet.

“We’re hearing about big Mercedes upgrades, I’m sure Ferrari aren’t happy with their current position as well. So, we’re fully expecting things to converge quickly.”

Hamilton has yet to agree new terms at Mercedes despite his current deal expiring at the end of the season. The delay has led to speculation he could switch allegiances due to the German constructors’ struggling form.

Reports have now emerged that Ferrari may be interested in making a £40million a year deal for the 38-year-old. The Italian marque could even lose the services of either Carlos Sainz or Charles Leclerc in a bid to push the deal over the line.

It comes as Hamilton continues to pledge his allegiance to the Silver Arrows team he “loves”. He has denied being interested in joining other squads despite Mercedes’ lack of pace compared to the frontrunners.
