Lewis Hamilton soaked grid girl with champagne as he celebrated F1 victory

Lewis Hamilton gave an F1 grid girl the shock of her life by dousing her in champagne as he celebrated a race victory.

Hamilton had plenty of reason to rejoice, having returned to the top of the drivers' standings following his win at the Spanish Grand Prix in 2014. But while most drivers on the podium tend to turn their champagne bottles on each other, Hamilton decided to get one of the grid girls in on the act, too.

Wearing a short black skirt and a zipped vest top, the brunette babe probably didn't expect to be the focus of Hamilton's attentions as he stepped down from the top step of the podium.

But within seconds she found herself covered in champagne as the Mercedes driver sprayed his magnum of fizz all over her. Hamilton appeared to be rather enjoying himself, sporting a huge grin as the unsuspecting grid girl attempted to shield herself from the booze.

The 37-year-old had plenty of reason to celebrate at the end of the 2014 F1 season, too, as he pipped team-mate Nico Rosberg to the drivers' title by a 67 points.

Unfortunately, the British driver is unlikely to be celebrating a similar success at the end of the current campaign as his Mercedes team continues to grapple with performance issues.

In fact, Hamilton is yet to even win a race in 2022, with his last success coming at last season's Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Mercedes had hoped they could mount a challenge at this weekend's French Grand Prix, but they still appear some way off Ferrari and Red Bull.

"I came here this weekend hoping that we’re going to be within three-tenths off them and we’re a second [off]," he said after another disappointing qualifying session on Saturday.

"I was really happy with my lap at the end, it was a beautiful lap, it was just a second off. So for whatever reason, we seem to be a lot further off this weekend. But then the whole pack is really. The two top teams are just in their own league, really."
